Skype Meetings Start Tomorrow (Mon 4/6)
I have posted the assigned times for the Tech-Mini lesson planning session under the Assignments tab in the Tech-Mini Lesson folder. Since the first Skype session will take place tomorrow (Mon 4/6) at noon it is imperative that you check the assigned meeting times immediately. As you can see, I will be meeting with several groups at one time. In order to make this planning session effective and efficient, please log into Skype about 5-10 minutes prior to your scheduled meeting time and be prepared to provide me with an update on the status of your group’s progress on the Tech-Mini lesson. I will invite each member of your group to a private Skype instant messaging session. I did my best to accommodate each person’s time request, however, it was not possible to do so in all cases. If you did not receive your requested time or you did not submit a request, please do your best to attend the assigned planning session (likely 15-20 minutes). If you are unable to attend during your assigned time, please contact the members of your group for an update.
Also, if you have not emailed me your AUP wiki user name and it is not a very obvious connection to you, please do so immediately.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
“See” you on Skype!

Obama plan would create 286,000 jobs in Texas
The proposed federal economic stimulus package has ballooned to more than $900 billion as it is being debated in the U.S. Senate this week. The U.S. House last week passed its version of a stimulus bill that carried an $819 billion price tag.
The stimulus plan being touted by President Barack Obama has a goal of creating 3-4 million jobs nationwide over the next two years, nearly 286,000 of which would be in Texas. This week, the president said the plan will deliver "immediate, tangible impacts," and outlined the impact his plan would have on Texas.
In addition to creating nearly 286,000 jobs in Texas, the White House reports that the plan would:
- Provide a work pay tax cut of up to $1,000 for more than 8.1 million Texas workers and their families.
- Provide eligibility for 346,000 Texas families in the new American Opportunity Tax Credit to help make college affordable by creating a new $2,500 partially refundable tax credit for four years of college for some 346,000 Texas families.
- Provide an additional $100 per month in unemployment benefits to 677,000 Texans who have lost their jobs during the current recession and extend unemployment benefits for an additional 125,000 Texans who have been laid off from their jobs.
- Provide adequate funding for the modernization to 21st century classrooms, laboratories and libraries in nearly 1,000 Texas public schools.
- Provide funding for Texas and the remainder of the states for the largest investment increase in the country's roads, bridges and mass transit systems since the creation of the national highway system in the 1950s.
Obama has urged quick passage of the act so that more American businesses do not close and more Americans do not lose their jobs.

We talked about how to use Diigo (which is DUE: Feb 12, 2009) If you have any questions let her know.
There is a survey that you should have gotten from Dr. LaPrairie on your gmail account which needs to be completed by Sunday Feb. 8, 2009. It would be best if you can finish it before than. : )
We discussed Blooms Taxonomy from the article read for today's class. We discussed how and why you could use these in your classroom with your students.
Quick Fact: We watched a video about how to find shortcuts to search terms, and phrases on the web. For example, if you are looking for mullet it has multiple meanings, a hairstyle and a fish so if you type in the search engine mullet -hair which will take away the searches for hairstyles. If you are looking for a certain topic, put " " around it to search it directly and not each word.
We continued through the PowerPoint on-Meeting students needs: assistive technology. Check out the links on the slides; for example, Screen-o-Matic, stickam, WorldLingo, awsomehighlighter, and A.nnotate.
FINISH TECHNOLOGY SURVEY ON YOUR GMAIL!!!
Website Investigator: Will be with your partner in the feild, you will meet with your mentor and talk about how this can be used in the classroom. Then you will implement it. Look at PowerPoint and instructions on BlackBoard.
Have a wonderful day!!!

EED 467.4 Jan. 30, 2009
At the beginning of class, we began covering the PowerPoint posted in Blackboard called Differentiated Instruction. It discusses how students have different needs, and how to differentiate instruction to fit those students different needs.
What is technology's role in differentiating instruction? There are many different things one being programs which creates stories, poems, there are multimedia authoring, and processors with voice annotations, just to name a few. There are technology programs that help with logic and critical thinking skills, creativity and visual skills, communication and cooperation skills, and individual skills.
We also discussed how Skype, Blogger, PBwiki, Diigo, Media Sharing, Learning Communities, and Wikis, can be used in the classroom or with your students, and with parents. Using these tools gets them involved, they know how to use it now you can show them how to use it correctly and in a way that is educational.
Check out the link for Blog Ideas for the classroom, at teachersfirst.com.
Check out the Sister Salad YouTube videos, SchoolTube, and TeacherTube related to Media Sharing.
The link for edu2.0 is similar to a free Blackboard for K-12 teachers to use for their classroom:)
We discussed a new assignment called Technology Mini-Lesson which you can find on Blackboard. Watch for an email from her about this. Presentations will be done after we are out in the field.
Dont forget about your Organizational Database due two weeks from today.

EED 467.4 Jan. 22, 2009
Make sure you get your surveys done!!!
We checked to make sure everyone can access the class PBwiki and answering questions about setting it up. If you have any more questions, make sure to contact her or post a question on Blackboard under assignment discussion.
We talked about Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 and what they are about. You can watch a YouTube video on PowerPoint found on BlackBoard. We also covered how far the internet has come and what kinds of things you can do. We have come from writing HTML code and now we can create are own and interact with others. Web 2.0 is personal, flexible, and sociable. Then we compared Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 and discussed which ones are better and why. We also covered how to make all this mean something to me and you such as PB wiki, Flickr, and Blogger. How do you make it all managable? This is called RSS feed so insdead of you going out there and getting things it brings it to you. This can be done with just about anything.
We discussed Social Writings/Digital writings-- What is a blog? Just to name a few, its personal, reverse chronological structure, along with other great things. We talked about what some educational uses could be like storytelling, live records of learning, questions, links and resources. We talked about wikis and thier educational uses as well.
We discussed the organizational database assingment due on Feb. 12. What is social bookmarking and what's important? If you find something on the internet that you find interesting, you can bookmark it into a collection which you can share with others. You can store, describe, and share. Some educational uses would be team projects and you track students progress. All of this is in more detail in the articles she has posted. The one Dr. LaPrairie found most helpful for social bookmarking is Diigo.
Go to Go2Web20.net and find four weblink tools that you think are interesting that you can use in your classroom. Once you do that, you will then put these onto your Diigo, and describe why and how you find this helpful for your classroom.
Most of this information can be found on BlackBoard.
Make sure to READ the articles assigned for each class.
Don't forget that Assignment #1 (Class Webpage) is due Next Thursday Jan 29th.

EED 467 First Class
We also discussed the article "Social Networking-Why Are We Afraid?"
We covered a PowerPoint covering what social networking is, such as, Facebook, Myspace, IM, ect... and how to use it properly and professionally because you never know what people can access.
Make sure to check Blackboard DAILY to find assignments, course outline, coffee lounge, information about naming your assignments (she has a certain way so that you won't have problems with same naming of different students). The coffee lounge will be used to post questions that you might have or questions that you think the whole class might have for the teacher to answer. This is also where she will post answers to questions that students that have had similar if not exact questions other students have had to the past.
On Blackboard there will be a post what we need to do by Sunday, such as, getting a Gmail, set up Skype, and creating a PBwiki, along with many other wonderful things. She will also post links on Blackboard that will help you set up your accounts.
Make sure before you set up your PBwiki, read about it, read the PowerPoint that she has posted on Blackboard about PBwiki. Next you will need to set up your account, and she will have guidelines that we will need to follow about what needs to be posted on your PBwiki. Once you get it together, check out the links on the page, such as, the Google Docs.
After completing assignments, you need to make sure to write how the assignments relate to the competencies.
Make sure to change Settings on your PBwiki the information about doing this will be on Blackboard.
You need to do the Contact Information Survey on Blackboard.
NEXT CLASS - If you have a laptop, bring it to class.
